Hayley Williams’ band Power Snatch surprise-release ‘EP2’

Six months after Hayley Williams and Daniel James launched their new band, Power Snatch, with ‘EP1’, the duo have surprised fans with their second collection of songs.

The soloist and Paramore singer formed the band with frequent collaborator James, who also helped her write and produce tracks for her latest solo album, ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party’.

Williams unveiled the Power Snatch project earlier this year while hosting a show on Apple Music alongside James. The two initially soft-launched the band with the release of their first single ‘DMs’ on Bandcamp in December, which they followed up with the debut of ‘Assignment’ on Apple Music and ‘EP1’ in February.

The duo have since released a captivating cover of This Is Lorelei’s ‘Perfect Hand’. And back in June, Power Snatch followed with two more singles, ‘Great’ and ‘Training’, with Tiberius b – who joined Williams at a London Roundhouse gig over the summer.

On Wednesday (August 12), ‘EP2’ arrived on Bandcamp comprised of four new tracks, including ‘Machete’, ‘New Legs’, ‘Born Dead’ and ‘Hell Is a Highway’ – which you can stream here. To alert fans to the surprise drop, the band shared a clip of the 1973 animated film Fantastic Planet soundtrack by lead track, the ’90s alternative indebted ‘Machete’.

Last October, Williams told Rolling Stone that she wanted to “be in 100 bands before I die”, because she felt like that was “the speed I work best in”.

Around the same time, the singer spoke to Kerrang! about why she wasn’t itching to start work on the follow-up to Paramore’s 2023 album ‘This Is Why’ just yet, adding that she was more focused on writing outside of the band first.

She recently completed the UK and European leg of her ‘Hayley Williams At A Bachelorette Party’ tour. It saw her covering Sinéad O’Connor’s ‘Mandinka’ in Dublin, while she was joined by Wet Leg’s Rhian Teasdale for ‘Parachute’ at London’s Roundhouse. The xx’s Romy also appeared at the previous London show to sing Prefab Sprout’s ‘Wild Horses’.

NME awarded Williams’ recent Manchester Academy concert five stars, describing the intimate show as one that balanced “joy and rage” and “felt like an old-school reunion with family you only see once every five years”.

Williams officially released her third solo album, ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party’, last August, having initially surprise-released 17 songs through her website. In a five-star review, NME said the record saw the singer “fearlessly stepping between familiar and fresh influences”.

Williams will return to the road in September for ‘The Hayley Williams Show’, with further dates scheduled across North and Latin America.
