If you get a bunch of pro athletes together and entertain them with competitive games, they’re going to play to win. Such was the scene at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding earlier in July, which saw the couple offer an arcade experience to guests such as Rob Gronkowski.
And in an interview with People published Thursday (July 30), the former New England Patriots tight end — who has participated in Kelce’s Tight End University through the years — shed some light on how it all worked. “What was really cool was that you had to play the games in order to get the raffle tickets, so that was really, really cool,” he told the publication.
Gronk confirmed reports that, through playing the smattering of games available during the event, guests could win raffle tickets to enter giveaways for prizes. “I was trying to win something for my girl, Camille [Kostek],” he continued. “You had to earn the raffle tickets, and that’s why I appreciate it. It wasn’t no hand-me-outs — you had to earn the raffle tickets, and that’s what made it so much fun.”
The pop star and Kansas City Chiefs player’s nuptials took place on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where a reported 1,000 or so guests gathered to watch the couple say “I do.” Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, while Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks contributed live performances.
TODAY previously reported on the raffle ticket system, revealing that designer bags and a 1970s Chevrolet Chevelle — similar to the one Swift and Kelce drove off in after their first public outing at a Chiefs vs. Chicago Bears game in 2023 — were among the prizes. Jackie Tranquill, who is married to Kelce’s teammate Drue Tranquill, later revealed that she was the winner of a Chanel purse that was up for grabs.
The newlyweds have kept a low profile since their big day, making one public appearance at NFL star JuJu Smith-Schuster’s wedding on July 10. Kelce is now gearing up for his 14th season with the Chiefs, with training camps starting on Wednesday (July 29), while Swift is enjoying the success of her Billboard Hot 100-topping soundtrack hit for Toy Story 5, “I Knew It, I Knew You.”
