Holly Humberstone reveals what she does to combat ‘stinky and gross’ dressing rooms

Holly Humberstone always includes a candle or incense on her tour rider because her dressing rooms are often “stinky and gross”.

The 26-year-old singer-songwriter insisted smelling fragrant smoke in her dingy dressing rooms “changes everything” about her pre-stage routine, and it can really help to “freshen the vibe up”.

She told PEOPLE: “My backstage rider has gone through so many different iterations. I feel like it’s always really good to have something like a candle or incense on the rider, because that changes everything.

“A lot of the time dressing rooms can be stinky and gross, so you need something to just freshen the vibe up.”

The Walls Are Way Too Thin hitmaker also tries to include healthy food on her rider, because she “gets ill so quickly” if she just chows down on unhealthy grub while touring.

She said: “I feel like I’ve tailored mine now to being a bit more healthy because being on tour and just eating s*** food is just not sustainable, and I’ll get ill so quickly.

“It’s unfortunately a lot of vegetables and yogurt and healthy stuff, which I really have to force down, because I just want to eat crap all the time, especially when I’m in the States.

“But my body will not appreciate that after a month of surviving off not sustainable food.”

Holly released her second studio album, Cruel World, in April, and she is “really, really proud” of the record.

She added: “I’ve had the best two years making it, and I’ve learned so much about myself.

“I’ve done a lot of growing up whilst I’ve been writing it.

“I hope that it can provide some kind of comfort or hope, or whatever for anybody who wants to listen to it.”

Holly recently told how she “rediscovered so much” about herself while writing Cruel World.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine in April, she said: “For that reason, I feel like the whole album feels so tied to who I am and who I’ve always been.

“I feel like a lot of my music until now has felt a little more introspective and internal. This feels a little more sure of itself.”
