The UK music industry is celebrating a landmark achievement as the Official Charts Company confirms that British artists have occupied the Number 1 spot on the Official Albums Chart for the first 11 weeks of 2026. This unrelenting run of success marks the first time in a decade that homegrown talent has completely shut out international competition for such a sustained period at the start of a year.

The Styles Effect

The streak reached its latest milestone with Harry Styles, whose fourth studio album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally., secured the best opening week of any release so far this year. Styles joins an elite roster of British chart-toppers that includes Olivia Dean, Robbie Williams, Louis Tomlinson, Charli xcx, Mumford & Sons, and Gorillaz. The last time British music saw such a dominant start was in 2016, which boasted a 15-week stint of local talent.

Martin Talbot, CEO of the Official Charts Company, noted that these achievements prove British talent can “more than hold its own” in a global music stratosphere often seen as increasingly crowded. Dr. Jo Twist OBE, CEO of the BPI, echoed this sentiment, attributing the success to long-term record label support and artist development.

“2026’s chart successes reflect support across many stages—from established superstars like Robbie Williams to recent global breakthroughs led by Olivia Dean,” Twist commented.

This chart dominance follows a report that UK recorded music revenue has reached a new high of £1.57bn, marking 11 consecutive years of growth. With major releases still on the horizon, the industry looks ahead with genuine optimism.
