Ice Spice has revealed it took her around three years to establish her voice in her music.
The In Ha Mood rapper revealed on the YouTube show Hot Ones on Thursday that she tried to sound like other people when she first started working in the recording studio because she didn’t know her own voice.
However, once she got comfortable in the recording booth, the 24-year-old started experimenting with different sounds and finally found her own identity.
“I feel like in the beginning, I definitely needed to find my voice more,” she shared. “I think it just comes with practice and time like anything else, you know what I’m saying, I had to just really be more comfortable in the stu(dio).
“Before, I didn’t really have an identity when it came to recording and I would try to sound like other people or what I thought ‘a hit record’ sounded like until I really just got more comfortable and just started experimenting and really being myself. It took like three years to find my voice really.”
The musician, real name Isis Gaston, is gearing up to release her debut album Y2K later this year.
