Universal Pictures International (UPI) has officially unveiled the title and theatrical plans for the highly anticipated feature documentary, Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition. Releasing in cinemas worldwide from May 7, 2026, the film offers a definitive look at one of the most storied careers in heavy metal history. Fans eager to secure their seats can purchase tickets starting March 18th via the film’s official website.

Directed by Malcolm Venville (Churchill at War) and produced by Dominic Freeman (Spirits in the Forest), the feature-length documentary meticulously charts the band’s remarkable five-decade odyssey. From their humble beginnings in East London in 1975 to becoming global pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the film captures the grit and “burning ambition” that propelled them to sell over 100 million records and perform nearly 2,500 concerts across 64 countries.

The documentary is bolstered by on-camera reflections from a diverse array of high-profile admirers. Figures such as Academy Award winner Javier Bardem, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, and Public Enemy’s Chuck D provide insight into Iron Maiden’s vast influence on music, global culture, and the millions of “Eddie” fans across multiple generations. To accompany the announcement, the production has revealed striking key artwork by renowned artist Albert “Akirant” Quirantes.

The cinematic release arrives at a fever pitch for the band as they continue their massive Run For Your Lives world tour. This tour recently featured a triumphant homecoming performance at London Stadium, located just miles from their original East End roots. The momentum is set to continue throughout 2026 with over 50 shows worldwide, including the recently announced EddFest, a unique one-day celebration taking place at the historic Knebworth Park on July 11th.

For a band that has released 17 studio albums and remained fiercely independent for 50 years, Burning Ambition promises to be the ultimate visual testament to their enduring legacy.
