The two rockers covered the Seventies deep cut during White’s show in Chicago

Jack White continues to prove that his current tour is one of the best rock shows of the year.

During his latest tour stop in Chicago, the rocker brought out Black Crowes lead singer Chris Robinson. But the pair didn’t play anything from either of their discographies — that would be too predictable. Instead, White and Robinson roused the Radius venue by covering Seventies blues rock band Free’s deep cut “I’m a Mover” rather than any of the band’s hits.

It was a truly electric performance filled with pure rock and roll fervor, as shown in a video shared by White. The rocker took a step back from his usual double duty as lead singer and guitarist, opting to shred voraciously as Robinson wailed on the mic. White was clearly in a blues mood; later in the night, he also covered Robert Johnson’s “Phonograph Blues.”

The surprise performance comes after White brought out his daughter, Scarlett, for one of his sold-out shows in Brooklyn. The pair played the White Stripes’ 1999 track “Cannon,” with Scarlett on bass.

Earlier this month, White kicked off his 2026 trek on July 10, the same day he released his eighth solo album Frozen Charlotte, his fourth LP in four years. The tour, which extends through the fall, is phone-free and each show has featured an array of deep cuts, both from the White Stripes catalog and his solo work. In August, White will head overseas for tour stops in Europe.
