James Bourne ‘still not out of the woods’ months after quitting tour due to illness

James Bourne has revealed he is “still not out of the woods” after dropping out of his 2025 tour due to illness.

The McBusted star has shared an update 10 months after he was forced to pull out of the Busted vs McFly tour last September because of ongoing health issues.

At the time, James’ bandmates revealed that he was “really f**king sick”.

Months later, in April, the singer announced on social media that he would be undergoing major surgery “to extend his life”, but reassured fans that “there is hope”.

However, James has not publicly shared details of his health battle or revealed what the surgery was for.

In his latest update on Friday, the 42-year-old told fans on X that he plans to share more information about his health in his Spotify bio while continuing his Instagram hiatus.

“As I’m taking a break from the gram, I’ll be posting an update soon about what’s going on with my health in my Spotify bio,” he wrote. “It’s a long story. Still not out of the woods yet. Thanks for your support and patience.”

Although he has stepped back from the spotlight while focusing on his health, James released a new album titled Murder At The Gates on 1 July for a new musical created with American playwright Steven Sater.

Speaking to The Sun in a recent interview, the British hitmaker explained that he did not want his health battle to overshadow the project.

“I didn’t want my health to stop me from promoting this project because I’ve put 13 years of my life into it,” he shared. “There was a fear of not finishing it. But I knew I had to finish it and give this to the people.”

“With everything going on with my health, I have been given the gift of time,” James continued. “I was given a lot of time back when I wasn’t touring. It was like turning a negative into a positive. It was such a shame to have to drop out from the tour, because I love touring so much.”
