Jamie T has released his eagerly awaited album Ghosts (100 Days of Morning), his first since 2022.
The record arrives after a period of reflection, written partly during a solo escape to Siena and shaped from years of forgotten voice notes that he finally felt ready to confront.
The focus single Waist 36, Leg 32 – which is featured on the EA Sports FC 27 soundtrack – tackles guilt, masculinity and the grind of modern life, paired with a video starring This Country’s Charlie Cooper, who gamely auditions to be Jamie T himself.
The noughties indie legend calls the track “a fable of sorts”, adding: “This song is a reminder to the listener to ‘step lightly and stay free’. Be kind to others, be kind to yourself, and leave the ghosts be. Or….. it’s about ‘oh, baby baby, oh baby baby’. Up to you…”
Speaking about the album’s wider theme, Jamie says: “Everyone has a part of themselves they keep at arm’s length, even from the people they love. Ghosts to me is about seeing that version of yourself for the first time in a long time and trying to hold on to it. This album is me trying to find that again.”
Across the tracklist, the Sheila hitmaker expands on his debut album Panic Prevention. From the Leif Vollebekk-sampling Tallahasse to the opener 3310, the record traces the messy transition from youth to adulthood, touching on nostalgia, loss and the strange comfort of old memories. Chelsea Girls takes aim at British tabloid culture, while a cover of The Jam’s Ghosts sits at the album’s emotional centre. He rediscovered the song while struggling to rehearse for Finsbury Park in 2022, and its opening line hit him “like a bolt of lightning”.
He said: “Slowly I found a way. A song genuinely helped me put my life back together and get to where I am now.”
Following a secret Reading opener and a Fred again.. collaboration that put him back on the map again, Jamie has a UK tour in December, including two nights at Wembley Stadium. Before then, he plays a series of intimate record store shows in Dundee, Edinburgh, Middlesbrough, Nottingham, Norwich, Kingston, Bristol, Oxford and Southampton.
Ghosts (100 Days of Morning) is available to stream now on all major platforms.
