Jesy Nelson claims another Little Mix member wanted to quit group first

Jesy Nelson has sensationally claimed that another member of Little Mix wanted to quit the group before she did.

In her new docuseries Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, the Boyz singer revealed that one of her bandmates wanted to leave the group in 2019, a year before she quit in December 2020.

While Jesy declined to name the bandmember in question, her comments indicated that it was either Leigh-Anne Pinnock or Perrie Edwards.

“I remember we got called in for a meeting. When we are called in for a meeting, it’s either going to be something amazing or something really bad, and I just had this gut feeling it wasn’t going to be good,” she said, reports the Mirror. “One of the girls had decided that they didn’t want to be in the band anymore. And I just remember feeling like my whole world had just fell apart. It was just a really sad day, and me and Jade (Thirlwall) really cried.”

When asked to name the person, Jesy insisted it was “not for (her) to say” because the bandmate hasn’t spoken about it publicly, but she added, “It’s been really hard to not speak out about this. I thought we’d be together forever. It was never my decision to leave first.”

The 34-year-old admitted that she didn’t handle the news well and wasn’t supportive because she was so “devastated”.

“I couldn’t really, in that moment, maybe give her the understanding and the support maybe that she needed in that moment,” she confessed. “And that sounds really selfish, because obviously that person was really feeling and going through something. But at that time, I just remember thinking I need to mentally prepare myself now for Little Mix ending.”

After the meeting, the Black Magic singers and their management made a plan for a big final tour, but then the Covid-19 lockdown meant the trek was pushed back by two years. Jesy, who felt her anxiety disappear during lockdown, struggled with her mental health when they returned to work, and she ultimately decided she couldn’t go on and quit the band.

The singer admitted that their lawyers told the other girls about her departure before she could.

“So I think they felt really hurt by that, and it should never have played out like that. And I feel like mad that was taken away from me, and like, I didn’t get my opportunity to explain why I couldn’t do this anymore,” she shared.

Jade, Leigh-Anne and Perrie went on The Confetti Tour in 2022 before going on an indefinite hiatus to pursue solo careers.

Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix is now streaming on Prime Video.
