Jewel and Lainey Wilson have led celebrities in sending Dolly Parton their condolences following her husband Carl Dean’s death.
The country music icon issued a statement on Tuesday announcing that her husband of almost 60 years had died the previous day. Dean was 82.
“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together,” she wrote. “Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”
Following the sad news, fellow country star Jewel offered her support to Parton, writing, “I love you,” with a heart emoji.
And Wilson expressed a similar sentiment, commenting, “Awwww – so sorry Dolly sending all the love and prayers.”
Elsewhere, Padma Lakshmi noted she was “so sorry for your immense loss”, while Andy Cohen simply posted, “Love to your family.”
Khloé Kardashian sent her “deepest condolences” to the Jolene hitmaker too.
“Oh my heart! I am so sorry for your loss! My heart aches for you! My deepest condolences. Praying for you and sending you love and prayers,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, Linda Thompson noted she was “so saddened” to learn of Dean’s passing.
“But I hope you find some comfort, darling Dolly, in knowing that you brought him many years of love and joy! You are such a gift to the world and I believe that Carl was a gift to you. Sending you Lots of love and deepest condolences,” the songwriter commented.
Dean died in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee and will be “laid to rest in a private ceremony”. A cause of death was not revealed.
While Parton often spoke about her husband during interviews, Dean was rarely seen in public.
“I think I’ve talked pretty much about everything through the years with Carl, and we’re different people. But we just work so well together,” the 79-year-old told Entertainment Tonight in January 2023. “He’s kind of a loner so he doesn’t really like being with anybody but me, when I’m home – I mean, he’s not one to kind of get out there and socialise that much. He loves living on the farm, taking care of the property as he has for all these many years, and then, we just have a lot to talk about.”
Parton and Dean wed in May 1966.
