Joji returns with gritty new song ‘PIXELATED KISSES’

Joji has returned with his first new music in three years, the gritty new single ‘PIXELATED KISSES’.

The Australian-Japanese singer has returned since the release of his last music, 2022 album ‘SMITHEREENS‘.

Now, he shares ‘PIXELATED KISSES’, a song that appears to be about the frustrations of a long-distance relationship. “Pixelated kisses got me goin’ insane / Replicate this moment from a million miles away”, Joji sings mournfully.

The song also marks Joji’s first release under his own imprint Palace Creek, which is distributed by Virgin Music. He was previously signed under 88rising since his debut EP, 2018’s ‘Tongues Rising’.

Take a listen to ‘PIXELATED KISSES’ below:

We spoke to 88rising founder Sean Miyashiro about the boundary-breaking record label in 2021, where he told us about Marvel choosing him to soundtrack their movie Shang-Chi starring Simu Liu.

“They told us, ‘You guys are perfect; you have the perfect vision at heart’,” he shared with NME. “They wanted to represent a global Asian youth experience and that’s something I really take pride in. From day one, I wanted to represent a more broad, global mindset.”

Signee NIKI went on to add: “I do think that Asian people have wanted this for a really long time. To see themselves in a Marvel movie, it’s just historic. It’s just empowering to see these people tell the story. To be a part of this historic moment in Western cinema is super gratifying, validating and exciting.”
