Jorginho claims interaction with Chappell Roan left his daughter in tears in scathing social media post: “Without your fans, you would be nothing”

Brazilian football player Jorginho Frello has hit out at Chappell Roan and her team for the pop star’s alleged mistreatment of his daughter.

Frello shared a lengthy post to his Instagram Stories on Saturday (March 21), telling fans that he “went through a very upsetting situation” with his family at a São Paulo hotel earlier that day.

His wife and 11-year-old daughter were attending Lollapalooza Brazil, and he said his daughter was so excited to see Roan headline, she made a sign to bring along to the show. Frello did not detail the name of the child, though his wife, Catherine Harding, shares an 11-year-old daughter with Jude Law.

“By coincidence, they’re staying at the same hotel as this artist,” he said. “During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it really was her.

“And the worst part is she didn’t even approach her. She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything.”

Brazilian footballer Jorginho says Chappell Roan’s security guard spoke to his wife and daughter in an “extremely aggressive manner” while they were staying at the same hotel as the singer.

The former Arsenal player wrote that “what happened next was completely disproportionate,” and claimed that “a large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people.

“Honestly, I don’t know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment,” he continued. “He even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears. My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot.

“I’ve lived with football, public exposure, and well-known people for many years, and I understand very well what respect and boundaries are,” he said. “What happened there was not that. It was just a child admiring someone.”

Frello continued: “It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this. I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially not a child.”

He tagged Roan’s Instagram account again at the end of his post, concluding, “WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.”

NME has reached out to Roan’s representatives for comment.

Roan has not publicly addressed the post. She did, however, thank her security team as she wrapped up last night’s Lollapalooza set, but it remains unclear if she was aware of the allegations at the time.

Chappell Roan thanked her security during her performance at Lollapalooza Brazil.

The acknowledgment came hours after footballer Jorginho publicly accused the singer’s team of behaving aggressively toward his 11-year-old stepdaughter, who is the daughter of Jude Law, at a hotel… pic.twitter.com/B1OdNcqiNM

The post follows Roan’s now-viral encounter with hordes of paparazzi in Paris, in which the pop star said she felt “disregarded as a human” and turned the tables by filming them, with that incident far from the only time that the former NME Cover star has called out intrusive behaviour from fans and paparazzi.

Back in 2024, she divided opinions when she compared fame to “an abusive ex-husband” and vented about the normalisation of extreme fan behaviour, including “stalking, talking shit online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public.”

Prior to that, she had taken to TikTok to share her thoughts on “weird” and “creepy” followers, calling out the “predatory behaviour” of so-called “superfans” that includes “nonconsensual physical and social interactions”, and also hit back at photographers who yelled at her on the VMAs red carpet.

Her statements have since been applauded by celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Rachel Zegler, and Daniel Craig, the latter saying he admires “the guts to say those things”. Olivia Rodrigo also revealed that Roan has been a key support figure in helping her deal with an “overwhelming” entertainment industry.

Doja Cat recently became the latest celebrity to come out in Roan’s defence after the Paris incident made headlines. Noah Kahan also came out in support of the pop singer, while Boy George urged her to “own” her fame.
