A video has resurfaced in which Justin Bieber explained he wanted to “protect” Billie Eilish from the music industry.
The Sorry singer described his fears for Billie in a newly resurfaced video interview that was originally published by Apple Music in 2020.
His comments have attracted new attention in the wake of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ arrest for alleged sex trafficking. As a minor, Justin – now 30 – was signed to the record label of Sean’s protege, Usher.
“It was hard for me being that young and being in the industry and not knowing where to turn, and everyone telling me they loved me, and turn their back on you in a second,” Justin told the outlet in the video.
“I just want to protect her,” he added of Billie, who was 18 at the time of the interview. “I don’t want her to go through anything I went through. I don’t wish that upon anybody.”
Justin said he hoped he could be a role model and support for Billie, saying, “If she ever needs me I’m gonna be here for her. I’m just a call away.”
He described coming of age in the public as often “bad… it was dark.”
“Think about how young I was and so impressionable and you have everybody telling me how awesome I am at all times,” Justin+ explained.
“I just want people to understand the psychology of why I potentially could have problems in my life.”
He added he had been “living in this shame” with “all this sort of stuff with my past.”
