Kamala Harris has praised Taylor Swift’s “courage”.
Earlier this month, the pop star took to Instagram to throw her support behind Harris ahead of November’s presidential election.
Harris has now responded to Swift’s endorsement while taking part in Wired’s autocomplete interview series.
“I am very proud to have the support of Taylor Swift. She’s an incredible artist,” the 59-year-old said. “I really respect the courage that she has had in her career to stand up for what she believes is right.”
The vice president then joked that she and Swift, whose American football star boyfriend Travis Kelce plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, supported opposing teams during last year’s Super Bowl.
“But we were on different sides of the Super Bowl last year,” Harris said. “I am a 49ers fan, but who’s mad at anyone for being loyal to their team?”
In her endorsement, Swift encouraged her 284 million followers to register to vote and explained why she would be voting for Harris.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” the Lavender Haze hitmaker, 34, wrote. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
It was later reported that the music megastar’s post prompted more than 400,000 people to click the link she shared to the U.S. government’s Vote.gov information site.
Harris announced her presidential campaign in July and has since received support from a number of A-list stars, including Billie Eilish, George Clooney, Barbra Streisand, Charli XCX and John Legend.
