Kanye West has insisted he’s “not a Nazi” after undertaking “further reflection” on his recent controversial statements.
Last week, the Stronger rapper embarked on an offensive X rant in which he rescinded an apology he made for making antisemitic remarks in 2022, called himself “a Nazi”, praised Adolf Hitler, began selling a T-shirt bearing a swastika on his website, and claimed he has “dominion” over wife Bianca Censori.
However, West took to X on Wednesday night to retract some of his comments.
“After further reflection I’ve come to the realization that I’m not a Nazi,” the 47-year-old wrote.
West, who also goes by the name Ye, didn’t add any further statements or issue an apology.
Following his latest hate-filled tirade, West was condemned by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and celebrities including David Schwimmer, Isla Fisher, and Charlie Puth.
Meanwhile, music industry executive Lyor Cohen pleaded with the hip-hop star to stop his antisemitic rhetoric in an open letter.
“With antisemitism on the rise, your voice and influence carry a significant responsibility. I urge you to be more sensitive to the pain your words inflict on Jewish communities and all those who stand against hate,” he wrote. “Your talent and reach could be used to heal and inspire, to bridge divides and promote understanding. Instead, you’ve chosen a path that sows discord and perpetuates harmful stereotypes.”
Following a similar rant in October 2022, West faced a wave of backlash, with bosses at Adidas ultimately terminating their lucrative Yeezy fashion collaboration.
