Karol G is gearing up to light up the summer with all her tropical splendor.
The Colombian superstar announced her fifth studio album, Tropicoqueta, in an Instagram video posted on Monday (June 9). “Finally sharing this with you,” she wrote in the caption. “My heart is overflowing.” While she hasn’t revealed the official release date yet, Karol promised that Tropicoqueta is coming “very soon.”
In the 50-second video, the singer surprises fans by channeling iconic artists Charo and Carmen Miranda, but with her own unique twist: instead of Miranda’s classic fruit headpieces, she rocks a pair of bongos strapped to her waist, coconuts as part of her top, and a bright orange outfit — setting the stage for a radiant, Latin rhythm-filled new era.
“This album is an homage to all those Latin music genres I grew up listening to,” Karol G recently told Billboard Español.
The announcement comes after the release of her latest single, “Latina Foreva,” which dropped on May 22. “I’ve had this idea for a long time to make a song that captures everything we Latinas are, because I feel like Latinas are in style … Latinas were never out of style!” the artist said. “We’re the life of the party. A party with Latinas isn’t the same as a party without Latinas.”
Last month, Karol G released her documentary Tomorrow Was Beautiful, which premiered on Netflix. “This is a very special piece for my fans. It’s an opportunity to show people who Carolina is, beyond just Karol G,” the singer told Billboard Español on the red carpet ahead of the documentary’s premiere on May 6 in New York City.
