Kelly Clarkson bid farewell to her talk show with a cover of the KPop Demon Hunters hit ‘Golden’, which you can watch below.
The former American Idol winner has hosted The Kelly Clarkson Show for seven seasons and over 1,000 episodes since its debut in 2019. In that time, the show has proven a ratings hit, winning 22 Daytime Emmy awards and popularising the Kellyoke segment, where the singer covers famous songs. Her takes on famous hits by Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, and The Smiths have all made an impression with social media in recent years.
In February, however, Clarkson said the forthcoming seventh season of the show would be her last. “Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives,” she wrote in a statement, alluding to the death of her ex-husband and former manager Brandon Blackstock last August.
For the final episode, which aired on Monday (August 31), she sang the KPop Demon Hunters hit ‘Golden’, which according to Variety was the most requested song for the segment. Performing with her house group My Band Y’all, she pulled off the song’s infamous high note and was met with rapturous applause by the studio audience.
Since its release last year, KPop Demon Hunters has become a global phenomenon, becoming Netflix’s most watch film of all time. Sequels and the aforementioned live show are on the way, while art books and a Criterion Collection Blu-ray are currently available for pre-order.
Recently, Christian metal band Demon Hunter sued Netflix over the planned global live tour featuring the characters, which they claim is an infringement on their copyright.
