Kelsea Ballerini has opened up about the “trial and error” of dating actor Chase Stokes
The country star has reflected on her relationship with the Outer Banks star following her divorce from musician Morgan Evans in 2022.
In a clip from Sunday Today with Willie Geist via Billboard, Kelsea explained that when she and the actor first started dating, she wasn’t used to the whole world watching her love life.
“I’m not used to the interest in me as a person, as much as I have been warming up to the last couple of years,” she said. “I’m still getting my footing on how I share things and how I share and my relationship and all that stuff.”
The singer, 31, added of relationships in the public eye, “It’s not normal so I think it’s fair enough that it’s an ebb and a flow.”
The Cowboys Cry Too singer and Chase, 32, began dating in early 2023 and have since been spotted on the red carpet together on several occasions.
Kelsea filed for divorce from Morgan in August 2022 five years after they tied the knot in 2017.
Elsewhere in the interview, Kelsea revealed she encouraged Chase to listen to her 2023 album Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, which detailed her heartbreak from her divorce.
“I think the beautiful thing about being with an artist – in a different field but an artist – is that also equates to being with a truth-teller,” she shared. “When I got into this relationship, I hadn’t put out Welcome Mat to him. I remember I sent that EP to him and I just said, ‘Hey, you’re going to ask eventually. So, I’m just going to go ahead and give this to you.'”
“He lifted that record up and supported it and stood side-stage the whole time,” Kelsea continued. “That takes someone who really celebrates truth-telling, and believes in the person that’s doing it.”
