Kingfishr face “the end of a relationship, and being better off for the experience” on new single ‘The Sun Will Never Settle’

Kingfishr have shared their second new single of the year, ‘The Sun Will Never Settle’. Listen below.

The Irish indie folk trio are currently drip-feeding fresh music and testing out unreleased tunes on the road, following the release of their debut album ‘Halcyon’ last summer.

Earlier this year, they returned with the track ‘The Blade’ before giving ‘The Sun Will Never Settle’ its live debut at The Great Escape 2026 this month (via Setlist.FM). They have also played another new song, ‘How Lonely’, at recent gigs.

Landing yesterday (Wednesday May 27), the studio version of ‘The Sun Will Never Settle’ sees the band unpack some difficult and confusing feelings in the wake of a break-up. The single had premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record earlier this week.

“The song is about the end of a relationship, and being better off for the experience,” explained frontman Eddie Keogh. “Sometimes these things don’t work out. That’s not ideal, but it also doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth it either.”

He continued: “If you’re lucky enough to end a relationship and both be better people as a result, you are part of a very prestigious club. Congratulations.”

“My heart it has been broken/ By who I cannot tell/ By what I loved and what I lost/ And what I did as well/ If leaving you was easy, well it wouldn’t mean a thing/ If you want to know what life’s about, you have to feel the sting,” Keogh sings in the first verse.

He is accompanied by banjo and warm, swelling guitars on the distinctly Irish folk number, which was produced by David Curley at Grouse Lodge Studios in County Westmeath, Ireland.

The emotional track later finds Keogh reflecting on his “lonely nights” and the “pain” he’s experienced after the split. However, he shares a more optimistic outlook that both he and his ex are “living in the future that we won“.

“Oh, the sun will never settle on the love I have for you/ The sun will never settle on the love I have for you,” Keogh states.

Kingfishr played two headline shows at the O2 Academy Brixton in London last week as part of their 2026 tour. Other gigs took place in Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Liverpool and Birmingham.

These concerts followed their double-header at Dublin’s 3Arena at the end of 2025. This summer, they’ll play a run of massive outdoor shows in Ireland – including stops at St. Anne’s Park and Malahide Castle in Dublin. See the full itinerary and buy tickets here.

The trio are scheduled to appear at numerous UK and European festivals, too, such as Reading & Leeds, the inaugural State Fayre, Rock Werchter and Pinkpop.

‘Halcyon’ went to Number One in Ireland, and entered the top 10 in the UK albums chart.
