KISS Hits Highest Mark on Top Album Sales Chart in Over a Decade With ‘Destroys Anaheim ’76’

KISS scores its highest-charted title on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart in more than a decade, as KISS Destroys Anaheim ’76 debuts at No. 8 on the list dated Sept. 5. The archival live project brings the band to its highest rank on the tally since 2012, with the group’s final studio album, Monster, debuted and peaked at No. 3 in October 2012.

KISS Destroys Anaheim ’76 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the group’s Aug. 20, 1976 show at the Anaheim Stadium, where the band played to its largest audience at the time: 42,000. As part of KISS’ The Spirit of ’76 Tour (also known as the Destroyer Tour), the recording was newly mixed for its first official public release across an array of physical and digital formats.

The album boasts recordings of KISS favorites like “Detroit Rock City,” “Strutter,” “Shout It Out Loud” and “Rock and Roll All Nite.” KISS Destroys Anaheim ’76 also debuts on an array of other Billboard charts: Indie Store Album Sales (No. 8), Vinyl Albums (No. 16), Top Hard Rock Albums (No. 12), Top Rock & Alternative Albums (No. 48) and the overall Billboard 200 (No. 173). On the latter, the set marks KISS’ 37th chart entry

Elsewhere on the Sept. 5-dated Top Album Sales chart, ENHYPEN nabs its fifth No. 1 with THE SIN : BLISS’ chart-topping arrival, while Weezer and Twenty One Pilots see their latest projects make top 10 bows at Nos. 4 and 5. Check out the full chart.

Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on pure album sales (physical and digital download purchases combined). The chart’s history dates to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album (TEA) units and streaming equivalent album (SEA) units.
