Kurt Vile has a lot of hometown pride, and he’s making that clear on Philadelphia’s Been Good to Me, his first new album in four years. The record drops May 29 via Verve, and today he’s sharing its lead single, “Chance to Bleed,” along with a music video as well as news of a massive headlining tour.
“Chance to Bleed” features Slint’s Ethan Buckler, Optic Sink’s Natalie Hoffman, and the Oblivians’ Greg Cartwright on guest vocals. Speaking about the track, Vile says it was “recorded with my band of bros the Violators in Athens, GA, and then on down the road to Memphis, TN where we got town legend Greg Cartwright to rip with us (KV lead gtr on the left and Greg lead on the right!) I finished this jam out in L.A. with Rob Schnapf at the mixing board and by then it was flyin, baby. The video is a hoot: I invited my Memphis friends back out for that and there’re a ton of other legendary guests so keep your eyes peeled. (Yo, Schoolly D!) Love, KV.”
The follow-up to 2022’s (Watch My Moves) will also get the spotlight treatment with a truly enormous tour that lasts from the summer through the beginning of winter. Starting July 16 in Toronto, Vile will make his way across Canada and the United States before flying to Europe, then returning to his home country for over a dozen additional shows. The route features opening sets by Ryan Davis & the Roadhouse Band, Twisted Teens, Being Dead, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Optic Sink, the Sadies, and Alex Amen.
