Lady Gaga thought her fiancé Michael Polansky was “joking” when he proposed to her.
During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, the pop superstar admitted she wasn’t sure if the proposal was legitimate because the entrepreneur asked her on April Fool’s Day.
“He proposed on April 1st, and I thought he was joking,” Gaga said, before acknowledging that she accidentally revealed their engagement during the Olympics in July.
“Then when we went to the Olympics, we were filmed saying hello to the Prime Minister and I was caught on camera saying, ‘This is my fiancé,'” the 38-year-old recalled. “I had wanted to keep it a secret!”
Gaga, who performed at the Olympic Opening Ceremony in Paris in late July, has since openly discussed her engagement to the philanthropist, revealing to U.S. Vogue earlier this month that he popped the question after a day of rock climbing.
Since their engagement, Michael has joined the Poker Face singer on the red carpet on a couple of occasions. He supported her at the debut of her new film, Joker: Folie à Deux, at the Venice Film Festival in early September, and accompanied her to the U.K. premiere in London on Thursday.
At the event, the Bad Romance hitmaker told BuzzFeed Canada that starting a family is her “number one” priority.
“I’m so happy to be in love, and I’m so excited to have a family,” she told the outlet when asked about her goals for the next 15 years. “So that’s definitely number one.”
Gaga and Michael have been dating for almost five years.
Joker: Folie à Deux, which also stars Joaquin Phoenix, will be released in cinemas on 4 October.
