Lana Del Rey reveals ‘beautiful’ companion album is on the way

Lana Del Rey reveals ‘beautiful’ companion album is on the way

Lana Del Rey’s long-awaited album Stove will be accompanied by a second as-yet-untitled companion record.

Telling fans the unexpected project grew out of the years spent waiting for the original album to come together, the 41-year-old singer’s announcement marks the latest chapter in her lengthy rollout for her next studio release, which has undergone multiple title changes and delays since it was first announced in 2024.

Lana shared the update in a lengthy new Instagram post, describing the second LP as a “large companion album” which was “compiled by as many people as I could find” and serves as “a commentary of sorts on everything that has been going on”.

The news comes after the record was first announced as Lasso, before being renamed The Right Person Will Stay and eventually settling on Stove.

Lana previously said fans should expect the album in January 2026, although it has yet to receive a confirmed release date.

She said on Instagram: “So much has happened over the last four years, so much time waiting for things to come together and so much time wondering if it was ok that things were falling apart.

“Patience was the key, and in between the songs came new thoughts about old friends and new dreams and from the doubt of whether the tree I had been planting would grow – came new sprouts and so grew a new rose bush underneath the willow.”

Lana added Stove was “a classic album, if I may say”, adding it was “so lovely and intact as it was intended to be”.

She also described the two records as “two of my most beautiful pieces of work”, explaining the companion album “sprouted from doubt, hopefulness, and the understanding that new beginnings truly mean starting completely fresh and over”.

Lana added: “When life decides to send you down another river, it’s really not your choice and it’s truly an adventure of its own. I wrote about it. Now it’s time to trust the process and go downstream. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s still on board with me. And of course, I wish the best to everyone who stayed on land. Of course I understand.

“Just kidding.

“I thought we were in the boat together.”

The Instagram post also featured photographs of fireworks, an Independence Day gathering and a vinyl sleeve featuring a Spyder vehicle on the cover, fuelling further speculation among fans about the companion project’s artwork and possible title.

Lana later said she needed about another month to finish assembling the record before sending both albums for vinyl production.

The announcement follows years of anticipation surrounding the follow-up to Lana’s acclaimed 2023 album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.

Speaking previously about the project at the Ivor Novello Awards, Lana said: “I’ve maybe less to say in terms of any self-revealing things like on Tunnel or Blue Bannisters or Chemtrails Over The Country Club, and just more melodic.”

She added the record would feature “a more American Songbook style” of writing.

The singer, who first found worldwide success with Video Games and Born to Die, has remained one of pop music’s most distinctive songwriters, with recent releases including Henry, Come On, Bluebird and White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter arriving during the extended wait for Stove.

Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd received widespread critical acclaim on its release, with reviewers describing it as among Lana’s most revealing work and further cementing her reputation as one of contemporary music’s most compelling artists.
