“Anything else you hear is bullshit speculation,” James Murphy says after Primavera Festival said new album is imminent
Good news and bad news for LCD Soundsystem fans. The band officially released their latest single, “X-Ray Eyes,” but revealed that a new album isn’t as imminent as the Primavera Festival suggested.
In late October, the dance-rock band’s surprise new song “X-Ray Eyes” was played without warning on an NTS Radio show and was later streamed on the band’s official website. On Friday, the single was formally uploaded onto streaming services.
Days later, the Primavera Festival announced that LCD Soundsystem would perform at the 2025 fest and that they’d be bringing a new album — the band’s first since 2017’s American Dream — with them. On social media Friday, frontman James Murphy clarified the situation.
“It’s the first single of what’s shaping up to be a new album,” Murphy said of “X-Ray Eyes. “Don’t ask me when that is, because we’re still working on it. But it feels very good to be putting out new music.”
In the Primavera press release, organizers said that the new album would arrive by the time LCD Soundsystem takes the stage in June. Murphy, however, warned fans that that isn’t necessarily the timeline.
“No, there’s no finished LP yet. But when we’re not playing shows, it’s getting closer and closer to completion,” Murphy added. “So that’s the news. Anything else you hear is bullshit speculation.”
However, LCD Soundsystem will release a limited run of “silkscreened 12″s” of “X-Ray Eyes” for their upcoming residencies in Los Angeles and New York, with a planned “more readily available commercial release of the same record when we can get it together.”
