Leo Woodall praises Oasis over The Beatles: “Liam Gallagher is the coolest frontman who’s ever lived”

Leo Woodall has praised Oasis over The Beatles, declaring Liam Gallagher to be the “coolest” frontman of all time.

The actor, known for his roles in The White Lotus, One Day, Tuner and Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, made the comments in an interview with the New York Times, in which he discusses some of the things he considers essential to his life.

Asked about his love of Oasis and The Beatles, Woodall explained: “The Beatles are very ingrained in my family. My dad and his uncle still have fights over who played the first chord of whatever.”

“But I probably listen to Oasis more,” he added. “Liam Gallagher is the coolest frontman who’s ever lived.”

Woodall was speaking while promoting his new film Tony, which was released in the UK on Friday (August 14).

Directed by Matt Johnson (Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie), the A24 drama stars Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers) as a young Athony Bourdain as the writer and chef spends a formative summer working in a restaurant kitchen in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Woodall plays Sal, an oyster shucker and hedonistic influence on the young Bourdain, while Antonio Banderas portrays the restaurant’s chef and owner.

NME gave it a four-star review, writing: “In another actor’s hands, the leather jacket-clad 19-year-old could just seem like an unbearable dickhead, but Sessa offers glimpses of the vulnerability that made his character so compelling in real life. Bourdain’s worst traits are further offset by an enjoyably ribald turn from Leo Woodall as Sal, the walking disaster of a cook who makes Tony look like a saint.”

As for Oasis, their blockbuster ‘Live ’25’ reunion tour will be documented in the upcoming Don’t Look Back In Anger film, which opens in cinemas and IMAX on September 11 before heading to streaming later in the year.

Speculation continues to swirl about the possibility of more live performances from the band. They are reportedly considering a major UK and European tour next year, potentially including a Manchester residency and a return to Knebworth.

Earlier this month, the promoter behind ‘Live ’25’ was granted a licence to hold concerts at the Hertfordshire estate, although nothing has yet been confirmed.

The Beatles, meanwhile, will be at the centre of Sam Mendes’ four-film biopic project, which will hit cinemas in April 2028. The four lead actors were spotted this week recreating the iconic ‘Abbey Road’ album cover.
