Lewis Capaldi has reacted after his awkward exchange with Formula One reporter Martin Brundle in Singapore went viral online.
On Sunday (October 5), the Singapore Grand Prix went down in Marina Bay and during Brundle’s trademark ‘grid walk’ in the build-up to the race on Sky Sports, he mistook Capaldi for his brother Anthony.
“Lewis, wonderful to see you…” Brundle said, only to be informed by Anthony that he had identified the wrong Capaldi brother. “Oh, you’re his brother?” Brundle chuckled. “How are you both?”
The ‘Survive’ singer was standing behind his brother and made light of the situation, telling Brundle, “Very nice to meet you, big fan”.

But the awkwardness was not over, as after a chat about the race, Lewis reached out to shake Brundle’s hand, only for the broadcaster to turn his back and walk away, leaving the pop superstar hanging.
As the video began circulating online in the following hours, Lewis Capaldi made light of the situation by sharing the video on his X account and writing, “bitched by brundle”.

It is not the first time that a Brundle grid walk interview with a musician has gone wrong – in 2023, Machine Gun Kelly engaged in an awkward conversation with him that resulted in the presenter saying, “Something tells me I won’t be on his Christmas card list”.
Elsewhere, Capaldi will play a UK and Ireland headline tour next summer, as well as two nights headlining BST Hyde Park and Leeds’ new Roundhay Festival. He has also been announced as one of the headliners for Isle Of Wight Festival 2026, alongside The Cure and Calvin Harris.
Last month, he released his emotional new single ‘Something In The Heavens’, and then surprised fans by playing it on an Aldi roof. It was the follow-up to his chart-topping comeback single ‘Survive’ in June.
Capaldi also played a memorable surprise set at Glastonbury this year, a redemptive performance that gave closure to fans after he was forced to cut his set short at the same festival two years ago amid a struggle with Tourette’s.
Since coming back from his hiatus, he has teamed up with BetterHelp to provide 734,000 hours of free online therapy. Announcing the collaboration, he shared: “Therapy is the reason why I am able to be a musician again”. He also played some warm up shows in May in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week.
