Liam Gallagher compares World Cup halftime show to ‘a bad trip’

Liam Gallagher has savaged the FIFA World Cup halftime show with a blunt post to social media.

On X he made his feelings about the 11-minute, Super Bowl-style extravaganza clear.

“This is like a bad trip,” he tweeted, adding, “It’s a good job I’ve got my spiritual socks on or that halftime entertainment could have tipped me over the edge.”

The likes of Madonna, Justin Bieber, BTS, Shakira and the Muppets all performed under one roof at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday night in a show curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. The halftime break stretched to just over 27 minutes as a result.

Former footballer turned pundit Wayne Rooney weighed in with his opinion, describing the performance as “c**p” and saying the “best part was when it ended” live on the BBC.

“I like a lot of those artists, but to be honest, I thought it was c**p,” he fumed.

“I did honestly. It just didn’t get me going. I wanted the football to be back on. It was a bit flat. I like Burna Boy, I like Shakira, I like Bieber, but that was too flat.”

Elsewhere, TV presenter Sam Thompson shared his frustration on Instagram, writing, “Halftime show… absolutely the last thing a football game of this magnitude needed. No one’s in the right headspace now, not even the fans.”
