Liam Gallagher responds after Wonderwall becomes England’s World Cup anthem

Liam Gallagher has reacted to Wonderwall streams soaring after the song became an unofficial England World Cup anthem.

Fans of the national team have been seen belting out the 1995 tune after England’s 4-2 win over Croatia last week, with players like Jude Bellingham seen singing along.

Spotify later wrote in a statement: “Ahead of England’s upcoming clash against Ghana, fresh data from Spotify reveals that Wonderwall by Oasis has emerged as the country’s unofficial tournament anthem.

“This follows scenes that went viral of England players and fans belting out the anthem in unison at the World Cup.

“Spotify can reveal that the 1995 classic has experienced a resurgence, with a spike in listening of 50 percent in the UK – a huge lift considering the existing streams and fanbase for such an iconic and enduring song.”

In response, just hours before England’s 0-0 draw with Ghana on Tuesday night (23.06.26), Liam wrote: “And rightly so it’s a f****** classic and I sound BIBLICAL on it.”

Liam’s brother and bandmate Noel Gallagher has also loved seeing the song being adopted by fans.

He told The Sun newspaper: “Wonderwall belongs to the people, and it was a magical moment between the people and the players.

“Best of luck to everyone who’s made the trip out there.”

As reported by Metro, Wonderwall is one of a few songs England submitted to be played in the stadiums before and after the team’s games, along with The Beatles’ Hey Jude, and Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.

After the emotional moment with fans singing Wonderwall, England captain Harry Kane said: “That was one of my favourite ever moments in an England shirt, especially at a major tournament.

“It’s the emotional connection with the fans, we know how much it means to them.

“They see how much it means to us. We have that connection right now.”

And teammate Declan Rice added: “On the pitch after the game and we were just connecting with the fans, and they were singing. That was special.

“Being in Dallas, singing Wonderwall. There’s nothing like that first time.”
