Lil Wayne is asking for forgiveness after his no-show at the scheduled kick-off to his 20+ Years of Carter Classics North American tour on Tuesday (June 30). “My Maine fans I’m so sorry,” Wayne wrote in his Instagram Story on Wednesday (July 1) after he did not make it to the stage for his headlining slot at the Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor.
“The show is being rescheduled to July 28,” he added, without offering any information on why he was unable to perform that night. “Please hold on to your tickets, they will be honored for the rescheduled date. More information will be emailed directly to ticket holders.”
And while Weezy has not explained his no-show, he made sure to tell his loyal fans that they are special to him and that he will make it up to them. “I ain’t s–t without you,” he wrote. “I can’t wait to come back and give you the show you deserve.”
According to local station WABI, after opener 2 Chainz finished his set, concertgoers “waited through a lengthy delay before being notified around 11 p.m. that Lil Wayne, 43, would not take the stage.” Disappointed fans who traveled long distances for the show told the outlet that they were upset by their favorite rapper going AWOL. “I came here for Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz and it was the most terrible experience. We drove over six hours to be here,” said fans Rita Sack, who made the trek from Nova Scotia for the gig.
“Never mind the money. It’s like, moments in life and that was going to be a moment. [My friend] left her six-month baby for the first time. Like, it’s people’s time. Just don’t waste people’s time,” she added. “We paid for Lil Wayne. Like, the least you can do is come out for a minute, apologize, you know? Like, just take the moment and be like, hey guys, sorry, not feeling it, feeling a little sick.”
At press time a spokesperson for Wayne had not returned Billboard‘s request for comment on missed gig.
The tour is slated to hit the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Thursday night (July 2).
