Listen to Charli XCX’s gothic new song ‘Chains Of Love’ from ‘Wuthering Heights’

Charli XCX has shared ‘Chains Of Love’, a gothic new track for the forthcoming Wuthering Heights film.

The track is the latest to be shared from Charli’s new album, which she has written for the upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights from Emerald Fennell.

The record was first announced earlier this month, and has already been previewed by the song ‘House’, which saw the singer team up with The Velvet Underground’s John Cale to capture an eerie, cinematic sound.

Now, a second preview of the album has been shared with the new song ‘Chains Of Love’. Like ‘House’, the song carries a similar spooky feel to it, and begins with a swirling, cinematic melody, as it gradually builds towards an euphoric chorus.

“I’d rather lay down in thorns/ I’d rather drown in a stream/ I’d rather light myself on fire/ I’d rather wear all these scars/ I’d rather watch my skin bleed/ In the eye of your storm,” Charli sings as the song steadily builds towards the chorus. “Shattering like glass/ Yes, they’re breaking up my heart/ The chains of love are cruel.”

The album will arrive on Friday February 13, and is available to pre-order here.

The new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights is set for release on February 11 2026 in the UK and two days later in the US. It stars Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.

The new song also features in the first trailer for the film, and is available to watch below.

Speaking of the new songs for Wuthering Heights, Charli said: “When working on music for this film, ‘elegant and brutal’ was a phrase I kept coming back to.”

She added that she felt “so lucky” to get to work with Cale:. “I decided to reach out to him to get his opinion on the songs that his phrase had so deeply inspired, but also to see whether he might want to collaborate on any. We got connected, we spoke on the phone and wow… that voice, so elegant, so brutal.”

The new song comes after Charli recently said that she was “currently feeling more inspired by film than by music” after being left “stuck, empty and barren” after her breakthrough album ‘Brat‘.

“[By the end of ‘Brat’] I sort of felt like I was squeezing blood from a stone, trying to get every last drop of liquid life out of an idea I had already been sat with for years prior,” she shared. “I still love [Brat], don’t get me wrong but I was itching to move on and was simultaneously frustrated that I was so depleted that I couldn’t.”

Early next year, Charli will appear on-screen in the drama film The Moment, based on an original idea by the singer. Directed by Aidan Zamiri, it’s the first co-production from her production company studio365.
