The country star performed her take on the ‘SOS‘ hit during a recent performance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

Complete with a slide guitar and a soft piano, Musgraves imbued the cult favourite R&B track with a country atmosphere, completing the performance with a black cowboy hat.

Later, she also performed her new single, ‘Dry Spell’, which is taken from her upcoming album ‘Middle of Nowhere’, due for release on Friday May 1.

Check out both performances below.

‘Middle of Nowhere’ is set to feature contributions from Miranda Lambert, Willie Nelson, Billy Strings and Gregory Alan Isakov.

Musgraves debuted a selection of tracks from the upcoming record during her surprise Coachella 2026 set last weekend. She was announced as a surprise performer only days before the set and played at the Mojave Tent last Saturday (April 18), where Jack White played during weekend one.

To mark the occasion, she arrived on stage on horseback and gave her upcoming album’s title track its live debut as the opening number. Other new songs to be performed live for the first time were the bittersweet, toxic relationship ballad ‘Back On The Wagon’ and ‘Uncertain, TX’ – which featured a line dance break.

The new record will follow up 2024’s ‘Deeper Well’, which saw Musgraves take home a Grammy at the 2025 awards, winning in the Best Country Song category for the album’s track ‘The Architect’.

In a three-star review of Musgraves’ latest record, NME wrote: “‘Deeper Well’ vibrates with the excitement of a fresh start. The sixth LP from country crossover star Kacey Musgraves lives in a state of suspended animation, reeling out self-care mantras without worrying if they will seem embarrassing years later.

As for SZA, she recently looked back on the release of ‘SOS’, recalling her label’s warning that the album was unlikely to beat Taylor Swift in the charts – which it ultimately went on to do.
