Lizzo vowed to remain a virgin until winning a Grammy, and then lost it in 2020 when she won three

Lizzo has revealed that she vowed to remain a virgin until she “won a Grammy” – and kept her promise.

The singer opened up about her personal life on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, hosted by Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco.

During the latest episode, the ‘About Damn Time’ pop star revealed that she decided from an early age that she wanted to remain celibate for a while, and didn’t lose her virginity until she was in her 30s.

“I was a late bloomer. I lied about it for a long time,” she said, revealing the unusual milestone she wanted to hit before she chose to have sex for the first time.

“Isn’t that crazy? I wasn’t even thinking about it… I just promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy. I’m so deadass [serious].”

She went on to share that she stayed true to her word, and lost her virginity in 2020 – not long after she won three Grammys at that year’s ceremony, taking home the trophies in the Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Urban Contemporary Album, and Best Traditional R&B Performance categories.

“I feel a weight off of my chest right now,” she continued to say on the podcast. “It was so embarrassing. I was in a friend group of girls, we were all girl-ing one night and it was like, ‘Wait, Lizzo, are you a virgin?’

“I remember, it was so embarrassing. I said, ‘I love the D.’ I said that. And it held me over for a little while.”

The singer also went on to share that she was also particular about her first kiss too, and only kissed someone for the first time when she was 21.

“It was religious for me too,” she explained. “Like, when we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn’t do anything before marriage. And then, I was just so scared. Like, nobody wanted to kiss me.”

As for her first kiss, she recalled: “It was a New Year’s Eve thing, and he forced it on me. I was really mad and I was like, ‘My first kiss is ruined.’ I was so mad.”

According to Yahoo!, Lizzo has been in a relationship with Myke Wright since 2022, and has reportedly finished work on her long-anticipated fifth album, ‘Love In Real Life’.

Her last album was 2022’s ‘Special’, and since then, she has celebrated a legal victory, and written a Substack essay saying that she thinks everyone should experience being cancelled “at least once”.
