Lola Young details addiction struggles after collapsing on stage

Lola Young has opened up about her addiction struggles after collapsing on stage.

The British singer has previously spoken about her addiction issues, but matters reached a breaking point on 27 September 2025 when she collapsed during a performance at the All Things Go Festival in New York City.

A week after the incident, Lola posted a message on Instagram explaining that she would be “going away for a while” and had cancelled “everything for the foreseeable future”.

Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, the 25-year-old Messy hitmaker, who was previously diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder and ADHD, has reflected on her “whirlwind of a year”.

“If I’m gonna be honest with you, the enjoyment was deteriorating,” she said of her rise to fame. “Just small things that I had to do: an interview, a piece of promo. I just didn’t know all the stuff that comes with it. But I wasn’t in a good place, and there’s two sides of the coin…”

Lola continued, “You want to say yes to everything because everything’s on the table, but then you also have to balance that with your mental health, and I’ve been super open about my mental-health condition that I suffer from, and also about all the other stuff that’s going on for me.”

Last summer, the singer’s manager told The New York Times that she had relapsed and returned to treatment. Just months later, she returned to the spotlight with the release of her third album I’m only F**king Myself.

However, during the album’s promotional run, her mental health began to decline again, and in September she collapsed on stage.

Following the incident, Lola received support from several artists, including Charli XCX, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Kesha.

“That was pretty mad,” she said of the support. “And that made me feel safer.”

As part of her recovery, the hitmaker checked into a holistic facility focused on therapy and psychology. She also attends AA meetings and has a sponsor.

Elsewhere in the interview, Lola confirmed that she has seen the video of her collapse, though it is not something she likes to revisit.

“But I am very grateful that it happened because it was, what do you call that?” she questioned. “Like, a breaking point which allowed me to then be able to be here today, allowed me to be better for my fans, better for the future, and better for myself.”
