Lola Young explores new sound on From Down Here – made with James Blake

Lola Young has kicked off a new era with the song From Down Here.

The Messy hitmaker – who received the PRS for Music Most Performed Work Ivor Novello for her track Messy in London on Thursday (21.05.26) – has shared her first song since her third album, I’m Only F**king Myself.

The Grammy winner worked with James Blake on the sprawling, cinematic track.

A press release read: “From Down Here opens a new chapter for Lola both personally and creatively. Capturing the strange space between joy and pain, longing and clarity, it turns the page on her last album while pointing toward a more sonically expansive and emotionally unguarded phase of her artistry.”

Lola commented: “The day after the GRAMMYs, I had a wave of inspiration hit me, so I got in the studio with the incredible James Blake and made this song. I am rewriting the next chapter of my story because what a boring book the old one would’ve been anyway.”

Lola is set to perform at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Sunderland on Saturday (23.05.26).

Her own UK headline tour kicks off in June, including dates in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and two hometown shows at O2 Academy Brixton. Lola will then head across the pond for All Things Go in September and Austin City Limits in October.

Her return to All Things Go comes a year after she collapsed on stage at the festival.

The 25-year-old singer’s set during the event at the Forest Hills Stadium in New York last September was brought to an end early after she fell down and needed to be carried off stage.

Lola declared she has to take care of “unfinished business” at the 2026 festival.

She will play the New York and Columbia events on September 25 and 27, respectively.

In a statement, Lola said: “All Things Go, we have unfinished business. I feel blessed and ready to take it to the next level. Thank you for having me back.”

Lola’s collapse at the festival in 2025 forced her to cancel all scheduled concerts for the “foreseeable future” as she focused on recovery with the singer later admitting she has been doing a lot better but it’s an an “ongoing process”.

She told The Sunday Times newspaper’s Style Magazine: “I think I would rather, for the sake of my privacy, not say too much. What I would say is that recovery is an ongoing process. I’m not the finished article, but I’m doing a hell of a lot better.”
