A new 18-track album of George Michael’s unreleased recordings will accompany the worldwide arrival of the film

A previously long-lost concert film capturing George Michael at the height of his early solo career will arrive in movie theaters later this year, alongside a new 18-track album of his unreleased recordings.

The previously unseen footage, which has been restored and remastered, will be compiled into George Michael: The Faith Tour. Filmed during Michael’s first tour, in 1988, the video was captured across 14 cameras on 35mm film over two performances in Paris at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy. (The venue is now called Accor Arena.)

George Michael Entertainment, in partnership with Mercury Studios, announced the news on Tuesday. Directed by collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin, the film’s producers promise the movie will offer an “intimate yet explosive glimpse of an artist in complete command of his voice and stagecraft.”

“George Michael: The Faith Tour is a celebration of ambition and fearless artistry at its peak, and a moment when the then-24-year-old George Michael changed the course of his career,” according to a press release. “This global theatrical event invites audiences to rediscover the power and joy of George Michael in full flight.”

In addition to the worldwide film release, George Michael Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment are rolling out new recordings from Michael, titled The Faith Tour, featuring tracks recorded from his Wham! days, as well as from his solo catalogs. Faith served as Michael’s debut solo album in 1987, following the global popularity of Wham! The project went on to sell more than 10 million copies.
