Lorde’s mother seemingly shades Lena Dunham following memoir release

Lorde’s mother has seemingly taken a swipe at Lena Dunham following the release of her recent memoir.

In her new autobiography Famesick, the Girls creator wrote about her then-boyfriend Jack Antonoff’s close friendship with a “teen pop star” and claimed that he spent much of the summer of 2016 locked in their home recording studio with an unnamed artist she “was too oblivious to be jealous of”.

While she did not identify the musician, it is widely rumoured to be Lorde, who worked with Antonoff on her 2017 album Melodrama and has had to shut down those romance rumours in the past.

Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, has yet to address the book, however, her mother Sonja Yelich made her feelings about Dunham known via Instagram this week.

After the actress-writer made a rare appearance at the 2026 Met Gala on Monday, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s official Instagram account shared an interview with the star.

In the comments, one user wrote, “No one gives a s**t about your opinion Lena”, to which Yelich replied, “No one.”

In Famesick, which was released last month, Dunham also recalled returning to her and Antonoff’s apartment to find the pop star “weeping into Jack’s lap” on the couch.

“He told her that ‘your teens are for experimenting’ in a tone so comforting, it almost brought tears to my eyes. It had been so long since he’d spoken to me with that kind of expansive generosity,” she wrote.

The 39-year-old also alleged that she suggested to the music producer that his friendship with the singer was “striking an odd note” and that “she wanted something from him that he couldn’t give”, and he allegedly replied, “You’re just mad because she doesn’t want to be your friend”.

Dunham also referenced an infamous PowerPoint presentation made in 2018 to prove that Antonoff had cheated on her with Lorde, writing that the slides were “so convincing that they had me rethinking events that I myself had been present for”.

Antonoff denied claims he was dating Lorde in a social media statement in January 2018, while the Royals singer has insisted their partnership was platonic on several occasions.

Dunham dated the Bleachers frontman from 2012 to December 2017. She is now married to musician Luis Felber, while he is married to actress Margaret Qualley.
