Third Man Records is reissuing Loretta Lynn’s Van Lear Rose, the landmark 2004 comeback album Lynn made with Jack White. Out November 13 in vinyl and CD formats, the LP will also return to streaming services for the first time since it was mysteriously pulled in 2021. (Pitchfork has reached out to Third Man for more information.) To tide you over, you can now listen to the single “Miss Being Mrs.” on your platform of choice.
“It is an incredible honor to work again with Jack and his amazing team at Third Man to re-release this incredible album,” Patsy Russell, Lynn’s daughter, said in a press statement. “Our mother’s spirit lives on through this timeless music, and we are thrilled that fans old and new will be reminded of this great work.”
Lynn hadn’t released a solo album since 1988’s Who Was That Stranger when White coaxed her out of early retirement. Van Lear Rose went on to win two Grammys: Best Country Collaboration With Vocals, for the duet “Portland Oregon,” and Best Country Album. The new edition also features the bonus track “Just to Have You Back,” which chances are you’ve only heard if you bought the Third Man Vault reissue back in 2015.
