Louis Tomlinson has revealed that he is learning to “shout about” his career accomplishments.

The former One Direction star has explained that, with time, he has grown to better appreciate how hard he worked during the early years of his career.

Speaking in a recent interview with Billboard, Louis said that while he has always tried to stay humble, he now feels more comfortable acknowledging his early success with the British boy band.

“It’s something I’ve definitely been able to appreciate more,” he stated. “I try not to be an arrogant guy, so when I was in the band, I wasn’t too confident talking about how great we were.”

He added, “But now I’m not. I’m more than happy to shout about that.”

Reflecting on his early years in the band, Louis recalled the whirlwind excitement over their rapidly growing success.

“Those first two years (we) were just holding on for dear life – and not in a bad way, (but) in an utterly exciting way,” he told the publication. “Things were changing so fast, but you have to remember that none of us have ever had any experience of what it was supposed to be like to be in a boy band, to be a recording artist, to be a touring artist.”

The 34-year-old continued, “So when all this stuff started happening for us at a great level, there was part of us that thought, ‘Well, this is just what really successful artists go through at the start of the process.'”

One Direction – which also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and the late Liam Payne – were formed on The X Factor in 2010 and went on indefinite hiatus in 2016. The members have since pursued solo careers.

Louis is set to release his third solo album, How Did I Get Here?, on 23 January.
