Madonna and Charli have spent recent months teasing their creative connection. They hosted a CLUB CONFESSIONS party with Saint Laurent during Paris Fashion Week and exchanged playful posts online, sparking speculation that a studio link-up was coming. Danceteria Afterhours is out now, with three limited-edition CDs also available.
The release follows the success of Danceteria, the latest single from Madonna’s No.1 album, Confessions II.
The collaboration arrives after Madonna and Charli publicly put to rest rumours of tension. Charli’s lyric “the dance floor is dead” in Rock Music prompted speculation about a rift, especially as Madonna was preparing to release a dance-focused album. Madonna responded with a disco-themed post that many interpreted as a playful jab. The pair later appeared together at the Saint Laurent’s menswear show in Paris, sitting side by side, smoking, hugging and dancing behind the DJ booth.
Charli later clarified that the lyric reflects her relationship with her album Brat, not her views on dance music. She said she does not believe in strict genre boundaries and sees the current dance landscape as thriving.
Meanwhile, Madonna is set to open the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday (27.09.26). It will be her first performance at the show in 23 years and her fifth overall, more than any other artist in VMA history. She leads this year’s nominations with 13, marking a career high.
