Madonna argues AI is the ‘opposite of making art’

Madonna argues AI is the ‘opposite of making art’

Madonna has asserted that content made with artificial intelligence is the “opposite of making art”.

In an interview for the July 2026 issue of Vogue Italia, the Queen of Pop explained that she likes to take regular breaks from the entertainment industry because “that’s how you fuel your imagination”.

Madonna went on to argue that art is not necessarily made from a “very pure place” anymore.

“Now to have a record deal you think about how many followers you have. That’s why in (new song) Bring Your Love I say, ‘Don’t try to distract me with numbers,'” she shared. “For me, it started not thinking about the charts, the streaming numbers. Algorithms and artificial intelligence are the opposite of taking risks and to me that is the opposite of making art.”

In addition, Madonna noted that she finds inspiration from being at home and “just connecting to nature, my children, my horses”.

The music superstar is currently promoting Confessions II, a sequel to her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor.

Explaining why she decided to make another dance album, the Hung Up hitmaker emphasised the importance of movement and expression for humans.

“Dancing is not just some stupid mindless thing, but it allows people to be part of a community and connect to others. Dance floors are a ritualistic space where you are free in your body and mind, you let go of anxiety and hopefully it elevates you to a higher level of consciousness,” the 67-year-old stated. “Dancing created a trajectory for me to escape what I considered to be a very prosaic life in the Midwest and gave me a reason to go to New York and pursue my dreams.”

Confessions II, featuring the singles Bring Your Love and Love Sensation, is set to drop on 3 July.
