Madonna has reflected on her daughter Lourdes Leon’s “dramatic” birth three decades ago.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the music superstar shared a slideshow of throwback photos of herself and her firstborn child.
In the accompanying caption, Madonna celebrated Lourdes’s 30th birthday.
“Happy Birthday My Lolita! You came to me in a Dream. A fever dream. A Dream called Life. If I tried to write it all down, I would cry a river of tears,” she began the emotional message.
The Hung Up hitmaker went on to share details of birthing Lourdes, often nicknamed Lola or Lolita, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles on 14 October 1996.
“Your chin was tilted up in my birth canal, you were looking for the stars you were stuck. After 18 hours of labor and your heartbeat slowing down, an emergency C-section was the only option,” the 68-year-old continued. “Did I mention the helicopters and news crews swirling above our heads on the top floor of the hospital in East LA? You’re (sic) birth was dramatic. Like our lives.”
Elsewhere in the post, Madonna described her and Lourdes’s connection as “Biblical” and urged her daughter to “never forget how to dream”.
“We are Two side(s) sides of the same coin. If what we risk reveals what we value then I would risk it all on you. Never forget who you are. Little Star, shining brighter than all the stars in the sky,” she added.
Singer-dancer Lourdes has not publicly responded to the heartfelt message.
The mother-daughter duo recently co-wrote the song The Test, which was included on Madonna’s fifteenth studio album, Confessions II.
