Måneskin‘s Victoria De Angelis has spoken to NME about her new solo venture, working with Anitta and the future of the Italian rock band.
The bassist for the band – who first gained prominence as the winner of the 2021 Eurovision song contest with their song ‘Zitti E Buoni’ – De Angelis recently announced her new solo project which sees her trade in her signature rock sound for DJ decks and something much more dance club ready.
Last week (September 3), she released her debut track ‘GET UP BITCH! (Shake Ya Ass)’ – a high-energy dance song that fuses bouncy techno with baile funk and features the Brazilian megastar.
Speaking about the collaboration, De Angelis told us: ” I just sent her the demo I made and I was like, ‘I have this track, I think it would be sick to have you on it’, and she sent me the track after one week.
“I was on a plane downloading it with the little Wi-Fi that I bought and I was like, ‘Ahh’, shaking my ass on the plane. I love Anitta, she’s so badass so it was the perfect collaboration.”
The musician also discussed the stark change in sound direction, leaving behind the hard rock of Måneskin, revealing her love of “baile funk and Brazilian Latin club music” and shared that with ‘GET UP BITCH! (Shake Ya Ass)’ was “the perfect combination of all the sounds I like combined with hard techno.”
She continued, saying that her new sound “has always been a part of me”.
“Since I was very little, I have always been very much into club culture and electronic music in general,” she added. “I have a lot of DJ friends who have further introduced me into that world so I’ve always wanted to take it a bit more seriously. I’ve been DJing for a couple of years just for fun and now I finally get to do it so I am really excited about this new project.”
Speaking moving into a new genre, De Angelis shared that she is looking forward to “just having so much fun with it” adding that she loves that she is able to do “completely different things”.
“I just love to have this energy and bring people together on the dance floor and just have fun together,” she said.
Upon the announcement of her new solo project and Måneskin frontman Damiano David teasing his own venture set for release on September 27, fans have been speculating that the band may have come to an end.
After being asked about the fate of Måneskin, De Angelis immediately made sure to put an end to any ideas of the band splitting up. “We just finished our tour a couple of weeks ago and it went amazing so now we are just having a little ‘chill moment’ but of course, we are not done.”
Later in the night, the bassist took to the stage alongside Halsey for a performance of the latter’s latest single ‘Ego‘.

Måneskin’s last full-length release was 2023’s ‘Rush‘. More recently, the Eurovision winners performed at this year’s edition of Mad Cool Festival. In a review of their live performance, NME said: “Charging through the setlist like a well oiled machine – and doing so with their distinct brand of authenticity – Måneskin are at the very top of their game; it’s no wonder they make headline slots seem like a walk in the park.”
