Mariah Carey has announced special 30th-anniversary editions of her iconic holiday song ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
The classic Christmas hit will now be available on both a 12″ and 7″ pressing as well as cassette and CD single with festive bonus tracks. A digital deluxe anniversary edition of her holiday album ‘Merry Christmas’ is also available and has been expanded to include the remastered St. John the Divine concert, ‘Hero’ from the same performance and the ‘Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)’ Video Version as well.
Other 30th anniversary versions of ‘Merry Christmas’ include a zoetrope vinyl pressing with an animated visual effect and a 2 x LP Deluxe Edition featuring a 24-page photo booklet chronicling Carey’s Christmas journey, a special Mariah Christmas card, and a newly remastered version of her iconic 1994 St. John the Divine concert on Disc 2. Both editions will be available on December 13 and are available for pre-order here.
Upon its release on October 29 1995, ‘All I Want For Christmas’ was an instant hit, landing the Number Six spot on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary chart in the United States and Number Two in the United Kingdom and Japan.
The track annually re-enters charts worldwide in the weeks leading up to Christmas. It has also reached Number One in over 30 countries. The single has also made history for the gap between release and reaching number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom, 25 and 26 years respectively.
‘All I Want For Christmas’ has officially been certified 16× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), claiming its status as the highest-certified single ever by a female artist.
In other news, a judge has recently said she is inclined to dismiss a copyright lawsuit brought against Mariah Carey over her festive hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
