It’s not just a sweet, sweet fantasy, Lambs! Mariah Carey released a 30th anniversary edition of her 1995 Billboard 200 No. 1 album Daydream via streaming services on Friday (July 17). The original spent six weeks atop the all-genre chart and went 11x Platinum, and this celebratory version is an expansion that includes several previously unreleased tracks.
“This album marked an era of firsts for me: my first rap collaboration on the iconic ‘Fantasy’ remix with O.D.B., my first time working with JD, my first world tour, my first time directing a music video on my own, and so many more. So it’s only fitting to include some ‘firsts’ on this anniversary edition too!” the five-time Grammy winner shared in a release-day Instagram post about this version of her hit album. “Most notably, this is the first time I’ve ever agreed (or rather, been convinced) to release my private writing sessions for ‘I Am Free’ (with Walter A.) and ‘Melt Away’ (with Babyface). I hope you enjoy this lil’ glimpse into the making of these songs, along with remixes, live performances, acapellas [sic], and b-sides.”
According to the press release, this expanded version also includes “fan favorites, live performances, classic remixes and features a new remix of ‘Underneath the Stars.’”
Though the 30th anniversary edition is available only on streaming for now, physical versions are coming on Oct. 16. The Lambily will be able to purchase it as a triple LP, 2-CD set or cassette. The vinyl version will also include the iconic singer’s 1995 live concert performance at Madison Square Garden, as well as previously unreleased tracks, while the CD set will feature previously unreleased versions of “Always Be My Baby” and “Open Arms” recorded during Carey’s June 17, 1996, show in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
