Mariah Carey has joked she simply “can’t deal” with the way she looks in overhead lighting.
In a teaser for an upcoming interview for the Las Culturistas podcast co-hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, the superstar opened up about her dislike of poor lighting.
“I can’t with the overhead lighting. Why do they do it to us? I shouldn’t say us, it’s not us. It’s me,” she began. “I’m the one who’s the most tortured by the hideous lighting in every elevator, doorways, gyms – not that I go to the gym. But I’m just saying, it’s hideous lighting.”
Mariah went on to note that she is fine with natural light.
“The sun is O.K. if it’s sunset. I’ll gladly go outside, put a little hat on or whatever and that’ll be pretty because the sunlight caresses your skin. But it’s bad for you, so you have to be careful of that,” the Hero singer continued. “But overheard lighting, I don’t think so, honey. Everywhere I go, shut the lights. Turn them out. I don’t want to see them no more.”
To conclude the rant, Mariah declared: “One more thing on overhead lighting, it makes me sick.”
The full episode is set to drop on Wednesday.
However, Mariah’s comments have already garnered a lot of attention online.
“Definition iconic,” actress Alison Brie wrote in the comments section, while singer JoJo lauded, “This is the best thing that’s ever happened.”
And actress Leslie Grossman gushed, “First of all never related to anything more in my entire life second of all OMG MARIAH??????”
It’s not the first time Mariah has spoken out on the topic.
During an interview for The Sunday Times in 2016, the mother-of-two went to great pains to point out that the Los Angeles mansion she was staying in was rented.
“I have to point out this is a rented house – I would never have overhead lighting. High hats, they call them,” she said. “In my apartment in New York, it’s all recessed lighting, chandeliers, candles. This lighting is abusive.”
