Mariah Carey reveals she’s recording new music

Mariah Carey is recording new music.

The 56-year-old pop diva only released the album Here For It All in September 2025, but she is already working on new material and is “very excited about it”.

She told Variety: “I’m definitely recording new music and I’m very excited about it. And yeah, I’m kind of like always recording new music, but I hope it will do well and people will like it. But yeah, new music.”

Asked if she is working on a new album, she replied: “When I say that, people get upset with me. [Laughs].”

Mariah is still planning to release her lost grunge album, Someone’s Ugly Daughter, but she’s not sure when.

Asked if the version with her lead vocals will be released, she said: “Well, I want to have this happen, but you know, I gotta wait.”

Asked what is getting in the way, she insisted: “[Laughs] I don’t know. I just literally have to wait a minute and put it out. And I’m going to do it. I’m going to do it. It’s just, you know, a whole thing.”

The We Belong Together hitmaker – who is nominated for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the third time this year – also revealed her plans for the 25th anniversary of her Glitter movie and soundtrack album.

The 2001 romantic musical drama initially flopped at the box office, but its soundtrack went on to earn such a devoted following that fans launched a Justice For Glitter campaign in 2018 – ultimately pushing the album back onto charts around the world.

Asked how she plans to mark the milestone, she said: “Plans for a deluxe and a reissue, or maybe just one, I don’t know. We’re getting on top of it. I’m excited about it.”

Because of its poor performance, Mariah didn’t like Glitter, but she learned to love it.

She said: “I used to hate it. I used to be so like, why did I do that? And then, you know, it became something that I really loved and it just sort of took on its own thing.”

Asked why, she said: “Because it was a disastrous flop. [Laughs].”
