“Get ready for Milano Cortina 2026,” the singer announced

Mariah Carey is heading to Milan in February for a major performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics. On Monday, the singer and Olympics organizers announced she will be performing at the opening ceremony for the 2026 games, taking place Feb. 6 through 22 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

In a video on Instagram, Carey appeared in a festive red number to reveal the news. “Ciao,” she greeted viewers. “Get ready for Milano Cortina 2026.”

“See you at the Stadio San Siro on the 6th of February for the Olympic opening ceremony,” she added before showcasing her Italian language capabilities. “Ci vediamo a Milano.”

In a separate Instagram post from the Olympics, the organizers called Carey, who is the first major international guest, “world-renowned for her voice and musical legacy that spans generations and cultures. Mariah’s career beautifully reflects the main theme of the opening ceremony: Harmony.”

The post noted that Carey was previously involved with the Olympics when her song “100%” was released as a single to benefit Team USA during the Vancouver 2010 games.  The caption promised a “performance set to define an unforgettable Opening Ceremony performance at Milano Cortina 2026.”

The 2026 opening ceremony follows the 2024 Summer Games opening ceremony in Paris, which featured memorable performances from Lady Gaga and Céline Dion, who made a triumphant return following her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome.

In other music-related Olympics news, Dua Lipa was recently tapped for an ad teasing the Winter Olympics games, and Public Enemy rapper Flavor Flav announced he will serve as the official hype man and sponsor of the U.S. bobsled and skeleton team at the Games in February. The Winter Olympics are set to come stateside, to Salt Lake City, in 2034.
