Mary J. Blige has revealed that she will retire from music in “five or six years”.
The R&B legend has revealed that she plans to retire from the music industry in the next few years after a career spanning three decades.
“Right now, I’m definitely gonna do some more acting and I’m definitely gonna retire in, like, five or six years,” Mary, 53, told Extra in a new interview. “Right now, I’m still doing what I’m doing but not as often as I was doing it because I don’t have to now.”
The music icon went on to share that her current music is “about life … love … being stable and understanding you can have things like love. You can have a good life.”
“Mostly the love I have for myself,” she continued, “… My real love is me and I found it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the Family Affair hitmaker opened up about the news that she will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in October, alongside the likes of Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, Kool & the Gang and Dave Matthews.
Mary told the outlet that she is “still trying to process everything,” adding that the honour is “the most amazing thing … it is in a class by itself.”
The singer will also perform at the annual ceremony, which will take place on 19 October in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mary is currently preparing for her annual three-day music festival, the Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit, which will take place in her hometown of New York City from 10 to 12 May.
