Matt Bellamy breaks silence on Elle Evans split

Matt Bellamy has broken his silence on his recent split from wife Elle Evans.

The Muse frontman has opened up about separating from model Elle, 35, after seven years of marriage.

The pair, who share two children – six-year-old daughter Lovella and two-year-old son George, are understood to have parted ways last summer, with reports in February later confirming they had called it quits.

Speaking to The i Paper, Matt admitted the breakup had a deep impact on him, saying, “It threw me off.”

He went on to suggest the circumstances surrounding the separation were not straightforward.

“It’s one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn’t normally think it is. It was a set of really unexpected circumstances,” the 48-year-old shared. “It’s the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life. It threw me off, and I had to prioritise looking after the kids and creating stability at home.”

Matt added that, during the split, he channelled his energy into music, revealing that the majority of Muse’s new album, The Wow! Signal, was written and recorded in the “depths” of the separation.

“(It was) right in the depths of this life-changing experience. And it was just – boom. It would just pour out of me,” he recalled. “It might have been the easiest album for me to make, because it was such a catharsis. It became a lifeline for me.”

The British musician noted that the separation gave him a source of inspiration for his songwriting.

Matt and Elle, 36, first began dating 11 years ago before tying the knot in 2019.

The pair were last seen together publicly in March 2025, when they attended the MobLand premiere in London.
